This one-day workshop offers an introduction to the central themes of the making of a photobook: book concept, visual narrative, visual concept and graphic design, as well as a few concrete notions related to book production. It is aimed at artists and photographers interested in photobooks in the context of their own practice, as well as other professionals (graphic designers, writers, curators, etc.) curious to learn more about the specificities of this medium.
The workshop will offer concise thematic introductions to a number of key issues related to the photobook. They will be complemented by case studies and conversations, as well as collective analyses of remarkable examples of emblematic or lesser-known photobooks.
Brian Paul Lamotte is an independent graphic designer and publisher specialising in art and photography books. His process-based practice relies on a close collaboration with artists, editors, and printers, and often emphasises the haptic qualities of print through the use of materials and specialized production.
